…Will turn off far more people than it attracts. It’ll also put you at risk of getting booted by eBay for keyword spamming.
- Tip #2: Spy on Your Competition, but Don’t Copy Them
Take a look at how your competition is wording their titles. Find at least five different sellers and see how each one writes their titles.
Often times it’s a good idea to get ideas from your competition, but if you just write the same thing you’ll only blend in rather than stand out. Instead, pick the best things about their auction titles and incorporate them into your own. Don’t copy them – instead, try to write a title that will make your auctions stand out from the crowd.
- Tip #3: Optimize for Scanners
Don’t assume people will read your whole auction title. Remember, they’re scanning anywhere between 20 and 200 auction titles at the same time, looking for the ones that stand out to them.
Make sure a scanner can immediately understand what you’re selling in a fraction of a second.
- Tip #4: Spell Check
It may seem simple, but unlike other programs eBay doesn’t spell or grammar check for you.
A simple spelling mistake can cost you all the sales your auction would have made. After all, if you’re making mistakes in your auction title, why would a buyer trust you with their money?
Always spell check and double check your headline.
- Tip #5: Use Descriptive Wording
Instead of just factually stating what’s in your auction, using one or two descriptive words can often help spruce things up.
For example:
“Snug fitting sweater” is better than “sweater” “Pristine MTG island card” is better than “MTG island card” “Stunningly designed handmade hand bag” is better than “handmade hand bag”
And so on and so forth. Just don’t go overboard with the adjectives.
